Belief Statement
Storytelling is inherently human.
As the National Geographic states, "storytelling is as old as culture". From the seanchaí ("traditional Irish keepers of story") to griots ("Western African storytellers/oral historians") the power of stories hold wisdom.
Sometimes we hold stories too tightly, other times we are afraid to tell them.
When given the space to share them and be witnessed by another, we can start to feel empowered to tell it differently. The narrative concept of re-authoring helps people see their problems as separate from self, tell their experience without judgment, and find ways to promote understanding, change and empowerment in their life.
Everyone deserves care and the ability to create a life that includes joy.
We fully support the social work ethical value of "dignity & worth of the person". We are neurodivergent affirming and against all the "isms" and "phobias". We strive to continually learn, take accountability, and change.
Nature is kin.
"The biophilia theory suggested that since we have evolved in nature, our senses and body rhythms are best suited for that environment..”Our healing connects to the world around us, nature helps us heal & we need to support the healing of nature as well.
